WHAT IS OGATAN?
Ogatan, also known as "sawdust briquette charcoal," is a type of charcoal made from compressed sawdust and other wood waste materials. It is an alternative to traditional charcoal and has the following characteristics:
1. Production Process: Ogatan is made by compressing sawdust and wood chips under high pressure to form uniform briquettes. These briquettes are then carbonized, turning them into charcoal.
2. Uniform Shape and Size: Unlike natural lump charcoal, Ogatan briquettes have a consistent shape and size, making them easier to stack and store. This uniformity also ensures more predictable burning characteristics.
3. Efficient Burning: Ogatan burns more efficiently than traditional lump charcoal, with a steady and consistent heat output. It also tends to produce less smoke and ash, making it a cleaner option for grilling and barbecuing.
4. Eco-friendly: Since Ogatan is made from recycled wood waste, it is considered an environmentally friendly option. It helps reduce waste by utilizing materials that would otherwise be discarded.
5. Usage: Ogatan is commonly used in restaurants and homes for grilling and barbecuing. Its consistent heat and low smoke make it particularly popular in Japanese yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurants.
6. Cost-Effective: Ogatan is generally less expensive than natural charcoal like Binchotan, making it a more budget-friendly option for both commercial and domestic use.
